Trippin'...

Off to London, tomorrow. Set to arrive Monday morning. Job starts on Tuesday, giving me a bit of time to shift my body clock. A seven hour plane trip from JFK so I should have time to nap.

My hope is I'll be done by Thursday, giving me all day Friday to meander around the town, but we'll see. I'm dealing with more than books, this time.

The only touristy thing I really want to do while there, if the job gives me the opportunity, is hit Harrod's. I'll be staying out by Heathrow and the tube goes direct from there to Knightsbridge. I had a really nice meal there, once, and want to see their Christmas decorations. They should be up, now.

I've been to London so many times, it's almost like going home. As mentioned before, I lived there for 3 years, as a child. My step-father was Air Force and stationed at Ruislip Air Field to the far west of town. Next to the last stop on the Central Tube Line. The house is still there, but the cricket pitch we lived by is now a high school.

It's funny, but having been born in California and lived in England set me on a quirky path in life with an off-center view of everything. I go to LA and I feel at home, there, too, even though I was actually born in San Diego. And I have the SoCal disdain for San Francisco. Too tight to live in and not my kind of people sort of thing.

This attitude may be helping me with writing Adam. He's Quebecois so I need to be a bit off-center with him, not American, especially in his way of speaking and presenting himself. And it seems to be working. I'm cutting a lot of the chit-chat I'd initially written and given him a more English as a second language feel, I think.

I hope.

What will be fun is making Dair not wind up a cliche of Americana. Adam sees him as a bit of a stereotype, but that evolves into something far deeper and more meaningful.

Again...I hope.
